What is Well-being?

The essence of well-being is that positive euphoria felt when doing good unto others.

With 'Music for Well-being Initiatives', I strive to use music to bless others, which in itself is a blessing to ourselves. There is much more to it than just playing a cheerful song for others but to be intentional with clear desired outcomes for both us as musicians and those we are reaching out to.

Music Community Outreach Hospital Ward Visit

Hospital Ward Visits

Everyone can make music, even bedridden patients at hospital wards! In an effort to share a little joy and cheer, I visit various hospital wards with fellow musicians to play some tunes. These sessions prove to be just as delightful for ourselves as they are for the patients, and there is much to learn from our experiences. Anyone with the passion to bless others through music can do this, professional or not. I invite you to join me!

Memories Cafe

These music-making sessions with persons with dementia and their caregivers fill the room with exuberant singing and infectious dancing, it's hard not to feel you're on top of the world for a moment!

In collaboration with the Alzheimer's Disease Association (ADA), I lead a session once a month at various locations around Singapore. These cafes provide a safe, supportive, and conducive environment for participants to freely express themselves and connect with one another.

Refugees in Indonesia

Not allowed to find employment and having to leave their home country, the Afghan refugees in Bogor Indonesia face many emotional and physical challenges. Yet their community spirit continues to thrive in their new home, with ground-up initiatives and educational opportunities arising out of sheer determination and perseverance.

In collaboration with Singapore International Foundation (SIF), we visited refugee centres to conduct creative music workshops, working alongside refugees to tell their stories through music.

Engaging Migrant Workers

Singapore is populated with many migrant workers who play very important roles in building up Singapore as a city - literally. Now working in Singapore, many have left their families behind in their home countries to provide for them.

In collaboration with Healthserve, I have organised outings to bring the joy of music to migrant worker communities in Singapore.

Outreach in Timor-Leste

Timor-Leste is not only one of the youngest nations in the world, it also has one of the youngest populations. Amidst the many hardships faced on a daily basis, the Timorese are still full of hope and joy about what lies ahead.

While I went with the intention to bless the people through teaching music and supporting the work of full-time missionaries, I instead found myself so blessed in return. Read all about my experiences and music outreach work in Timor-Leste!

Special Needs Choirs

Everyone can make music, and not just play music but write music! In collaboration with Singapore Special Voices (SSV) and SG Enable, myself and a team of musicians led a creative music workshop to help youth with special needs compose an original piece of music. This piece was then performed at the 5th Enabling Employers Awards in 2019.

The musical process and product focused on enabling the youth to express their thoughts and emotions through writing their own lyrics, and highlighted their abilities through opportunities to perform centre-stage and play instruments.
